Eviction ban in England extended until 31st May

The Government have announced yet another extension to the ban on evictions in England. Under the new announcements, landlords will not be able to take possession of their properties until after 31st May.

The requirement to give tenants six-month notice before they can repossess properties will also be extended until at least 31 May, except where they are seeking possession on the grounds of:

  • Anti-social behaviour (four weeks’ notice)
  • False statements provided by the tenant (two to four weeks’ notice)
  • Over 6 months’ accumulated rent arrears (four weeks’ notice)
  • Breach of immigration rules under the ‘Right to Rent’ policy (three months’ notice).
